West Nile virus is spread by the bite of an infected mosquito. The West Nile virus can infect people, horses, many types of birds, and some other animals.
The Center for Disease Control advises the public that they should avoid Mosquito Bites to avoid infection. Although human illness from West Nile virus is rare, even in areas where the virus has been reported, and the chance that any one person is going to become ill from a mosquito bite is low, many would prefer to err on the side of caution. In any case, mosquito bites are an annoyance to anyone who enjoys the outdoors during the summer months.
You can reduce your chances of becoming ill by protecting yourself from mosquito bites.
